We must learn to honour and even love our struggles. Here’s why!
We all struggle at various times along our journey. Sometimes the struggle is due to circumstances. Sometimes the struggle is purely an internal one. Either way, we struggle.
And I’ve spent most of my life complaining about my struggles and challenges.
I struggled to bounce back after losing everything
I struggled to learn how to sell
I’ve struggled with trying to find my purpose on this planet.
I used to wish and hope that one day I could get to a place where I wouldn’t have any problems or challenges. I now know that will never happen. In fact, the older I get the more challenges and struggles I seem to have.
Maybe you can relate.
But here’s the interesting thing.
I’ve noticed that time after time, my most rewarding achievements have also come after my greatest struggles!
And that’s when I realised.
We must stop complaining about out struggles but rather honour them. They have come to serve us.
Why do I say that?
Well, the key to happiness is progress. But there is no progress without growth and no growth without struggle!
So our very happiness often comes from our struggles.
Think about people you find inspirational. They don’t inspire you because they achieved success easily.
No! They inspire you because they overcame their struggles. Their struggles were the source of their strength and their eventual success and happiness.
As Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths”
So let’s look at the 3 steps to honour your struggle!
Step 1: Understand your struggle is part of the discovery process, part of the process of you becoming better!
Step 2: Review some of your past achievements. I bet your most rewarding ones are the ones the involved you overcoming a challenge or struggle. So get excited! Your current struggles are the source of your greatest future achievements!
Step 3: Look for the advantage. Maybe your struggles will make you more determined. Maybe, they will force you to look for a better path. Maybe they will force you to grow. Every adversity you face has an advantage so look for it. It’s there!
So love your struggles. They have come to serve you. We all get down at times. That’s fine but when we understand how to honour our struggle, it makes the journey far easier!
